LITTLE SEED EP - 2009
Little Seed was my first experience recording my own songs. We tracked it in Durban, South Africa, in 2008 at Omega Studios with Jerome Govender, who would go on to become both my bandmate and my dear friend, and thanks to his wacky energy, the whole experience was an absolute joy.
I was lucky to be joined by some incredibly talented friends. Steve Murray (of Stealing Lovejones) and Josh Kleynsmith (of Gangs of Ballet) who stepped in on percussion and lead guitar, and my sister Siobhan, as always, brought her magic to the backing vocals.
Although I had been performing for most of my life, this was my first real attempt at songwriting. Looking back now, I’m proud of how much I grew between this record and the next.
After releasing the album, I made the bold decision to quit my job and pursue music full-time. What followed was a tough year, hustling for gigs in one of South Africa’s most challenging music scenes. By the end of it, I returned to my day job. My confidence had taken a knock, and my passion dimmed enough that I didn’t pick up my guitar again for almost a year.
